I think poetry was the last thing I talked about, but I’m really challenging myself at the moment and I can’t get enough. I’m contemplating another contest – this one to write a poem that tells a story. It’s not as easy as it sounds!

Another great way to flex my creative muscle is to enter contests that provide a sentence to start the story. It’s hard not to be predictable, but that’s all part of the fun.

I know that work on my novel is important but short stories and trying new things is a good way to tighten my writing. I’m really enjoying it – any excuse to put pen to paper.
