Articulate…who me? #AtoZChallenge – Peculiar ‘Pen fellows’ – Quirks only a writer can understand

Articulate…who me?

Give a writer a pen or a keyboard, and it’s kind of like handing Thor his hammer – it’s when the magic happens. Not the greatest analogy, but hey, words can strike like lightning, so it’s not the worst.

My point is, in our comfort zone, we are confident in our ability to weave worlds, and while we’re not always one hundred percent satisfied with a work in progress, we aren’t lacking in passion. We give our characters a voice, a platform to shine, if you will (regardless of whether we have an audience or not).

If you come face to face with a writer, you’ll find us an articulate bunch, even the most introverted of us. Of course, there are exceptions. Take for example the simple question, ‘How’s the writing going?’

Easy right?

Hmm, not so much. You might get a variety of reactions, from a manic smile, followed by a gush of indistinguishable words as they flow over one another, to floods of tears that may or may not involve head banging (and not the good kind).

But perhaps one of the most awkward questions, the one that is almost guaranteed to short circuit the intelligent part of a writer’s brain – ‘What’s it about?’

Erm…well…it’s about…there’s these…you know…erm…

Painful, right?

And it doesn’t matter if we become practiced at talking about our work, every once in a while, words fail us!

Thanks for stopping by.
