It’s been several years since I spent time with these characters. I was tempted to leave it as a standalone novel, but as I sold it as a series and I had fun the first time around I’ve finally turned my attention to Audrey Montgomery and her crew!

The problem is that The Fifth Watcher is written in the first person. I don’t normally write that way, except for a few short stories. My comfort zone is the third person, so it was challenging. As is my way, I put pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard) and let the characters out to play. The thing is, they’re happy for me to tell the tale and seem reticent to take ownership!

So, my question is, (and I know there’s no hard and fast rule for this) but can novels in a series switch from the first person to another perspective in subsequent novels, or do you think the series should have continuity?

It would be really useful to get your thoughts.

Thanks for stopping by

    Hey Mel!
I love love love book one and I’m soooooo excited to see you return to this series ❤
As for switching POV… that’s a tough one. Personally, I prefer consistency, but I think that’s because of my OCD. That being said, I love this series so much, I would buy/read it regardless of the switch.

Perhaps, to bridge the transition, you might consider including a prologue in 1st person from a seldom see/heard from character, and then write the bulk of the story in third person? Maybe that particular character from the prologue makes occasional, short, 1st person appearances throughout in their own mini-chapters?

Regardless, I know the book will be amazing!

Hey M.J. Lovely to hear from you. That is a wonderful idea. I’ve actually written the prologue in first person so we’re definitely on the same page! I’ll go with it for now and see what emerges!

Thanks for the feedback on the series, too. I’m so glad you enjoyed it. It’s been a while since I spent time with the characters so I’m having an absolute blast.

I hope you and yours are well, and hope to catch up with you soon. It’s been too long.

      Take care
