The Be Inspired Weekly Writing Challenge this week is to tackleΒ a Memento poem (based on a holiday or anniversary). A Memento consists of two stanzas, with a syllable count of 8, 6, 2 – repeated twice in each stanza. The rhyme scheme is; a/b/c/a/b/c.

Hidden Treasures Buried Deep

A tricky one this week, but I had a great deal of fun with it.

I hope you enjoyed my interpretation.

Thanks, as always, for reading.

I think you should give yourself a lot more credit than you do! I love reading the pieces you have shared, both prose and poetry.

Thank you. That really means a lot. I have little confidence in my poetry because it doesn’t come naturally. Writing prose is never hard, maybe because the characters in my head are so vibrant. The words flow like they have a life of their own; like I’m merely a vessel. When I write poetry it’s different, and I sometimes forget that no two forms of writing are the same. Just because I have to work at it, doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing.

I appreciate your encouragement and, like I said, it means a lot that you enjoy my work.

Beautiful and so inspiring! You did so well with this challenge. The form is properly used and the thought is so well depicted. The use of maps and treasure as metaphors seem so perfect! Thanks for your participation!

Thank you so much. I’m thrilled you enjoyed it. When I was writing it, I had in mind a family I stayed with in France. I loved their traditions and the time I spent with them. It is a precious memory.
      Take care. Mel

Thanks, Mishka. I seem to have a little addiction to these particular prompts – who knew I had so much poetry in me! πŸ™‚
