As some of you will know, I’ve been sharing my work in progress for the last few weeks, courtesy of a blog hop entitled WIPpet Wednesday – organised by K. L. Schwengel. From the 6 October, I will also be taking part in a Round of Words in 80 Days (ROW80), and sharing my goals and progress within that period. For this reason I won’t be taking part in NaNoWriMo this year. ROW80 will allow me to focus on a particular project too, while giving me the freedom to work at my own pace. Last year, nanowrimo took over my life, and though it was a wonderful experience, I don’t have the luxury of checking out this time. Still, if it hadn’t been for nano I probably wouldn’t be here (on WordPress – I’m not that dramatic).

So, while we’re on the subject, one of my goals will be to increase my presence on social networking sites. I forget about Facebook, get overwhelmed by twitter, and don’t even understand what pins are. Okay, so I exaggerate, but you get the drift. And because I like to stretch myself, I’m always looking for new and exciting ways to achieve my goals.

I’m getting to the point…honestly. Power2Indies are hosting a Big Book Bash on Facebook. The aim is to allow people (authors, book bloggers, illustrators, publishers, readers, etc.) to meet, chat and have fun. Time slots will be allocated, putting people in charge of the event (hourly), so they can run question and answer sessions, giveaways, and a whole host of things to engage their audience. Check out the site, here, to find out more.

I will be hosting two sessions, for those of you who are interested in stopping by. The first will be on Friday the 17th of October at 9.00pm (GMT), with the second session the following Friday, the 24th of October at 8.00pm (GMT).

I’ve spent time over at the site already, and it was a lot of fun. Who doesn’t like to talk about their favourite books, characters, or movies!

If you have the time, book a slot. You’ll get to meet people in a safe environment and put your planning skills to good use!

Thanks, as always, for reading.

Mel

I could definitely do with upping my social media presence as well. It seems there’s always something new to get our heads around πŸ˜›

Absolutely. If you get the time, you should try it. I think it’ll be fun. And if you do book a slot, let me know and I’ll stop by πŸ™‚

I love your sense of humor, Mel! This made me chucke:

Thank you for the Big Book Bash on Facebook information. I’m sharing your post, and looking into it.

Thanks, Gina. I’m glad you found it entertaining. Some would say my humour is an acquired taste!

I appreciate the share – let me know if you book a place for the bash and I’ll try to join you πŸ™‚

I will let you know if I participate. The scheduling can be tough for me right now.

        I understand πŸ™‚ I’m stretching myself a little thin, I must admit!

        You’re welcome.

I mean that it made me chuckle, not chucke. Chucking is the opposite of what I meant. πŸ˜€

I never even noticed! But I would have known what you meant πŸ™‚

Oh, good! I had to fix it, though. You know what I mean. πŸ™‚

I think the key with social media is to pick one or two sites and focus on that as opposed to trying to master everything at once. Heck, blogging is enough (and time consuming!).The book bash sounds like fun. Hope you enjoy!

    1. mbarkersimpson Avatar

Thanks, Quanie. I agree about having a focus. I can’t imagine juggling more than two! It’s really an exercise to learn more about the process, and it does sound like fun!

Urgh, social media, I struggle with it like no one’s business! πŸ˜€

But that facebook bash sounds great, will definitely drop by that day!

Cool πŸ™‚ hope to catch up with you then.

I reluctantly joined Pinterest. Much to my surprise, I get more traffic from that site than any of the other social media. I’d never have predicted that. The only one I still can’t see a benefit to is Instagram. They don’t even allow links (from what I’ve heard).

    1. mbarkersimpson Avatar

I just can’t seem to get the hang of Pinterest, and I don’t use instagram very often. Though I went through a stage where I was obsessed with photography so that was sort of fun!

I use it for my non-fiction technology-in-education writing. I share resources there. I don’t know that it works as well for writing. In fact, I get few visitors/repins to my writer boards while I get many to my education boards.

It’s good you’ve found what works and what doesn’t. I haven’t explored enough, but I aim to have a poke around and see where it takes me πŸ™‚
