Darkness falls across the land.Β The midnight hour is close at hand.Β Creatures crawl in search of blood… Yes, I know I’m quoting the lyrics from Thriller, but I’m trying to set the scene. My daughters’ persuaded me to go toΒ a Scare Fest last Thursday, close to midnight no less *cue music*Β Β “It’s close to midnight…” Sorry, can’t get the song out of my head!.Β As I stepped into the woods, gripping tightly to my partner in crime, IΒ expected Michael himself to cross our path – it was like the set of a horror movie! There were a group of us, which added to the fun. We even had the stereotypical tough guy; with his false bravado and constant jokes to compensate for the fact he was way out of his element. He actually made the night…when the first zombie jumped into our path, he screamed louder than I did! It wasΒ a lot of fun. The scene wasn’t complete without a cabin in the woods and despite signs warning us against the horrors waiting inside, weΒ entered the fun house. Yes, you guessed it, there were more zombies…this time axe-wielding fire-men.

So, anyway, that leads me onto my own fireman – Tyler Davies. NaNoWriMo is going well. I’m enjoying spending time with Tyler and the gang, and I’ve even found time to continue editing. I don’t have a great deal to update in terms of ROW80. You win some and you lose some. My writing and editing are on target, so this week I plan to concentrate on the blogging elements I’ve failed to complete so far.

How about you? How was your week, and what did you do for Halloween?

Thanks for stopping by.

Mel

Indeed πŸ™‚ Thanks – overall it was a pretty good week!

Just finished a word sprint and so far real good, I spent my Halloween dressed up as Wednesday Addams thinking I wasn’t going to do nanowrimo this year. But never say never πŸ˜€

    1. mbarkersimpson Avatar

Absolutely! I decided I wasn’t going to do it this year, and then changed my mind at the last minute! Wednesday Addams sounds cool – I didn’t dress up this time. Maybe I’ll join the crew at the Scare Fest next year and have some fun πŸ™‚ Thanks for commenting.

I just realised you’re writing and editing at the same time. That will hopefully be me next year.

I’ll probably do a Halloween post you can check out later but for now lots more word sprinting!

        All the best!

      2. mbarkersimpson Avatar

I’d like that. Happy sprinting πŸ™‚ All the best to you too.

I’m having a blast! Of course…it’s early days and the stress will probably kick in later πŸ˜‰

Your night out sounds fun, Mel. We went out for my birthday/our anniversary. It was a wonderful night.

I’m late, internet just came back to life two hours ago. Anyways I received only one guest at the door, dropped a handful of candy into some tall teens bag. No one came, I think my dog spooked them, or unless he was spooked by them,
My ROW80 check in is a bit late. as for my naNoWriMo, It’ss meagre at the moment. Prologue is a tad challenging, I think the writing would be mellow out and be written out,
I think the tea almost gave me an upper cut, cue scene from street fighter II video game, Sho-Ryu-Ken.
Sounds like your day had gone mellow, happy writing. πŸ˜‰ stay on the mellow side πŸ™‚

    1. mbarkersimpson Avatar

I wasn’t mellow at the weekend when my internet was down for almost two days! That’s probably why I got so much writing done πŸ™‚ I’ve found my chi again though now! I hope you get through the prologue and the words start to flow like wine πŸ™‚

      1. mrschmoe Avatar

Ah, narcolepsy it affects the internet in your region, as well. Unless the internet providers are cheap greedy bastards. Anyways it’s good that you got the writing done. And your chi as well.
The prologue is getting there. Cheers with a cup of strong coffee

Cheers right back at ya πŸ™‚ have a good writing day!

Good work so far this week!! πŸ˜€

Sounds like all is well. We Halloweened with friends out-of-state, and there was a Harry Potter inspired feast. The eyeball deviled eggs were especially tasty!

    1. mbarkersimpson Avatar

Nice! Any feast is a good feast πŸ™‚ It’s also lovely to celebrate with friends.

You know, I didn’t even recognize those lines from Thriller! *Ducks. Runs from Michael Jackson fans* And I’m glad to hear you’re getting some work done on your WIP. Maybe some of that will rub off on me eventually:)

    1. mbarkersimpson Avatar

lol – they’re wily, those Michael Jackson fans! The embarrassing thing is, I can remember creating a dance routine when I was about 12 and forcing my family to watch…an unforgiving audience πŸ˜‰

  10. jannatwrites Avatar

I’m not with it, I didn’t even catch the Thriller lyrics! Now, if I’d heard the music, I would’ve known it right off πŸ™‚ No way I’d go to anything called a “Scare Fest!” We took our sons trick or treating for Halloween… that was about it.

    1. mbarkersimpson Avatar

I had the same reaction, but it was actually a lot of fun πŸ™‚ Trick or treating is great though – I remember taking the girls.

I write best when I’m inspired. I get an idea and if I go with it–which means setting aside whatever I’ve been working on–it usually turns out well. So yesterday, I got a marketing inspiration for my non-fic books. Five hours later, I had some great Photoshopped images.

But no progress on my book. Sweet and sour.

    1. mbarkersimpson Avatar

We wouldn’t be who we are without a little of both πŸ˜‰

  12. Denise D. Young Avatar

Sounds like a lot of fun. It’s been ages since I went to a “house of horrors.” My Halloween was pretty low key. I did carve a jack-o-lantern this year. He’s still sitting on my balcony, with his crooked grin and rectangular eyes.

    Have a great week!

    1. mbarkersimpson Avatar

Thanks, Denise – you too πŸ™‚ The last time I carved a pumpkin I carved the Transformers logo (Autobots, of course) – it turned out pretty well! I didn’t do one this year. Maybe I’ll try something extravagant next time!

  13. Christy Birmingham Avatar

Scare Fest would have frightened me so much! Eeeek you set the scene well for us readers!

    1. mbarkersimpson Avatar

Thanks, Christy πŸ™‚ It frightened me too, but in a controlled environment, it was actually kind of fun!
