I haven’t taken part in Cee’s Share Your WorldΒ challenge for quite a while, and I’ve missed it. If you fancy joining inΒ the fun, head on over. Cee in warm and welcoming and has some amazing photographs to share.

Do you have a signature dish? If not is their oneΒ in your family?

I don’t have a signature dish, but I get a few requests for my strawberry cheesecake! My family also particularly like my parkin* though I haven’t made any for the past few years. My dad used to make an awesome chocolate cake, and that was definitely his signature dish (he was an awesome cook). I miss them on my birthday and at Christmas. We have the recipe, which was passed down, but it just doesn’t feel right to make it – it wouldn’t be the same.

*Parkin or Perkin is a gingerbread cake traditionally made with oatmeal and treacle, which originated in northern England

Do you have a favorite board game?

I love board games, but unfortunately my family do not share my enthusiasm! I usually bribe them to play a few at this time of year, but they complain bitterly the whole time! My favourite is probably Scruples, but I don’t get to play it very often and the last time it caused a family argument! Fun times πŸ™‚

Is there a household chore that you enjoy?

Yeah right! I can safely say that I conduct every household chore like I have a gun to my head – I do it because I have to! If I could give the housework a β€˜sweeping glance’ and get away with it, I would. It is better when I have an audiobook on the go, then I get lost in another place and time and before I know it…hey presto – clean house!

Β What is one thing you will never care about?

Whether or not I have a β€˜fashionable’ wardrobe. I don’t care what’s hot and what’s not – I look smart when I need to, and that’s about as much effort I put into my wardrobe choice.

As for the bonus question, and the things I’m looking forward to –Β it goes without saying that I’m excited aboutΒ spending time with family and friends this week. I have a number of books on my wish list and as I’m mostly deserving of my name being in the ‘nice’ column, that means there will be plenty of reading for me!

Merry Christmas, everyone.

Mel

I’m just sitting here asking myself why I’ve never tried Parkin! πŸ˜‰

Merry Christmas, Mel. I hope it’s a great one for you πŸ™‚

Awe, come visit me! I’ll play boardgames with you. My favorites are the Game of Life and Monopoly. Oh and Star Wars Trivial Pursuit, but not a lot of people like playing that one with me. πŸ˜€

Excellent πŸ˜€ Let’s make it a board playing date! We might have to wait a little while…sort out the little details like planes and such πŸ˜‰ Have a great Christmas.

Hehe, sounds good. Taiya and I already played a couple board games today. We let her open half her gifts to give her something to do, plus she has a tendency to take hours to open gifts. She has to play with each one before opening the next. LOL

You have a great Christmas as well! πŸ˜€

That’s so lovely – my girls hardly see what they’ve got they’re so excited to get to the next! Gotta love a girl who takes her time to enjoy her gifts – I think I have something in common with Taiya – I like to process what I’ve got too πŸ™‚ Have a great day tomorrow. I hope Santa brings you some lovely things!

I’ve never heard of Parkin – sounds like an interesting dessert! We play games once in a while. So far, no arguments, but it is really nice to get the kiddos out of the video games once in a while. (My older son was on a mission to get my husband to join their Minecraft game… I told him it wouldn’t happen in a million years. So far, I’m right!) I hope you have a wonder Christmas and New Year!

Ah Minecraft – my nephew tried to teach me how to play that! Have fun πŸ™‚ I’ll look forward to catching up with you in the new year.

I wish I could take the credit, but the powers that be in the WordPress universe are responsible for the festive cheer! I agree with you, though, it is pretty fabulous πŸ™‚

Merry Christmas to you too, and a very happy new year.
